Ever since I was young, I had a very good impression of teachers. I have always thought that they are a hardworking lot, willing to lend a helping hand to anyone, not just his/her student. I have always regarded a teacher to be my role model. And of course, I have always taught that teachers will have a passion for the subject that he/she taught and will be more than happy and willing to answer any questions his/her students have on the subject.
However, my impression has changed…
In just a morning, I experienced 2 totally different type of teacher:-
One willing to sacrifice her time, her lunch break to answer her students’ questions and to clear her students’ doubt. She doesn’t mind sitting with her students for 4 hours, just to clarify any doubts her students have. She would tackle every single questions raise, make an effort to explain everything and lastly, to ensure that her students understand the concepts fully.
The other would be more than happy if her students left her alone and not to ask her any questions. To her, her only job is to reinforce the concepts taught in the Lecture Hall again in the class in a slower pace. Anything else would be considered out of her job scope.
Initially, I was quite disgusted by a teacher who came into the classroom and tells her class that she did not prepare for the lesson or she is just as bad in a particular topic as the class or simply rejecting to help her students.
However, I guess that’s what that makes everyone unique. We can’t expect every teacher to be the same, can we? After all, teachers are human beings also. So, we should cherish those excellent teachers and make do with those good teachers. (mind you, I didn't say anything BAD about any teachers, did I?). And, we should be happy that we are living in this era that enable us to have a teacher to teach us and we should not take any teacher for granted.
But, this make me realized something, it is extremely hard to ask help from someone. This is something that I was told long ago, but never believed in it till today… Which I will not forget it forever..
